Epoxy Floors as a ‘Green’ Solution to Household Maintenance

Epoxy garage floor paint is making its mark on the building community as a durable and attractive way to protect both indoor and outdoor surfaces. However, what many homeowners may not know is that epoxy floors are also a “green” building material, offering many environmental benefits over competing products. Here’s the rundown of eco-friendly assets epoxy brings to the table:

  1. By doing some research, homeowners will see that many epoxy flooring systems meet the LEED standards for low VOC emissions, making them safe for indoor and outdoor use without the danger of toxic off-gassing that can damage indoor air supply as well as the outdoor environment.

  2. By applying an epoxy coating to older, damaged floors, homeowners can prolong their use, instead of tearing them away to be replaced with a fresh one. This is a green solution because it takes away the need to clog up landfills with refuse from renovation products, and also saves the materials and energy that would be expended tearing up the old floor and putting in the replacement.

  3. Floors with an epoxy coating can easily be cleaned without the use of harsh chemicals, and they do not need to be waxed or polished afterwards to protect their surface. This saves on the amount of chemicals a homeowner will need to purchase, that would eventually make their way into local water systems.

  4. Due to the reflective qualities of lighter epoxy floor coatings, less indoor lighting and energy will be required to illuminate rooms, and rooftop treatments will protect against excess heat absorption during sunny days, making for greener, more energy efficient buildings.

  5. Because of its fast and efficient installation process, epoxy flooring takes much less time and energy to install than many other flooring options, and require no additional power tools, sanders, polishers, or varnishes to fit them into the space or smooth them into a useable surface.

We’re just a couple of Motor City guys who are passionate about cars. We crave the rumble of a cammed out 5.0 Mustang. We dream about the smooth lines of a Ferrari 250 GTO. Heck, if Ethanol was a cologne, we’d probably wear it. That’s why we got exhausted of seeing sub-par garage floor systems on the market.

Nothing is more frustrating than shelling out the money to start your project, only to find that there are several “extras” you will need to track down before you begin, or finding out mid-application that you’re going to run short on supplies before you reach the finish line.

Are Epoxy Floors Worth the Investment?

Jul 20, 2011 by Car Guys Flooring

When considering whether epoxy flooring is right for your home improvement plan, you may not be looking at the big picture when comparing its cost to that of its competitors. Home owners often like the idea of an epoxy floor, but are put off by the price when comparing it to regular concrete paints, tiles, or simply leaving the surface “as is.” However, when evaluating what epoxy floors can do for your home’s aesthetic appeal, protection, and long-term resale value, epoxy comes out the clear winner, offering exceptional returns on your initial investment.
