Types of Crystals used in Chandeliers

With a touch of crystal and a shimmer of light, crystal chandeliers have been around for a long time as symbols of opulence and luxury. Chandeliers have a lot of history behind them that can be all the way traced back to 16th century. Used in churches, monasteries, palaces and private homes of royalty and noblemen, they made quite a style statement. With intricate designs molded in iron or brass to hold the candles, most chandeliers were hung for decoration purposes rather than lighting and many were also lit only during special occasions. Crystals refract light creating many beautiful patterns of light in the room and when used along with mirrors, the room would have looked simply spectacular.

Many Crystal chandeliers were made during the late 16th century, where a transparent form of rose quartz called rock crystal was used to make the chandelier. The rough irregular shaped crystals soon became more sophisticated with intricate work and polished glass trimmings.

Many types of crystals are used in the chandeliers such as -

The Swarovski Crystal

Touted as one of the finest crystal of the world, Swarovski originates from Austria. Clear and beautiful like the pure water of a spring, the Swarovski crystal epitomizes the term ‘crystal clear’ that is so often used by many. Available in varied colors of gold, silver and many other crystal colors, Swarovski crystals add a vintage charm to the chandelier.

With beautiful intricate beads, light balls and petals, this crystal chandelier is all that is timeless and elegant. Made from light Swarovski crystal and polished brass this chandelier is quite spectacular to gaze upon.

Hand-cut Crystals

Hand-cut crystals are highly refractive that works quite well on chandeliers. Made through two different processes these crystals are cut by an iron and a sandstone wheel, after which it is polished on a wood wheel using marble dust. Intricately cut, many of antique chandeliers are made from these crystals.

Legacy Crystals

Legacy Crystals otherwise known as Venetian Crystals are made in Venice. Shimmering bright these crystals lend an authentic feel to the chandeliers. Today most of the chandeliers are made using these crystals. With beautiful elaborate designs, this crystal chandelier styles gives a traditional European look to the house and looks graceful in the dining room.

Vintage Crystals

Vintage cut crystal chandeliers are antique chandeliers that people normally inherit with grand homes. Brilliantly cut with adorable designs, these chandeliers also features fancy beads and crystal jewelry. Crystals in all geometric shapes and cute little raindrop beads makes these chandeliers spectacular to look at.

Rock Crystal

Rock crystals are truly unique pieces that have been used in chandeliers and jewelry for years together. Sparkling like diamonds, these age-old rock crystals take about billion years to form and remains mysteriously cool no matter what the temperature is. Difficult to work with and completely transparent, rock crystal chandeliers were definitely for those who have an elegant style.

Lead Crystal

Made from glass and processed with the help of lead oxide these crystals have a high index of refraction, which makes them sparkle brilliantly. Also known as 30% Full Lead crystals, these high quality chandeliers make the rooms more brilliantly lit than any other chandelier in the market.
