The Benefits of an On-Demand Tankless Water Heater

Is it time to replace your old hot water tank? Curious about the benefits of an on-demand tankless water heater? Wondering if it's the right system for you? In most cases, the answer is a resounding "yes"!

There are numerous advantages to using a tankless water heating system, including the following key highlights:

  • Unlimited Hot Water - no more cold showers!
  • Save Space - no more storing water in a bulky tank!
  • Save Money - lower gas and energy costs than traditional power vented water tanks!

Let's take a closer look at what going tankless will mean for you and your family:

Use Hot Water When You Want, As Often As You Want

When you use an on-demand water heater, you're only heating the amount of water you need - nothing more, nothing less. As soon as you open the faucet, water flows into the heater, where a sensor turns on the heat exchanger. The water then flows through the heating coils, where it is quickly heated to the desired temperature. As soon as the faucet is closed, the sensor automatically shuts down the heating coils, which means you use only as much hot water as you need.

And since you're not drawing from a limited reserve of hot water in a tank (and we all know that doesn't last very long), using an on-demand heater means that you'll never run out of hot water again.

Reduced Energy Costs Puts More Cash Back In Your Pocket

You don’t use hot water 24 hours a day. In fact, most homes only use hot water for about one hour each day. So why are you paying to heat your water all day long? With a standard water tank, you're storing, heating, and reheating the same water all day long.

Even if no hot water is being drawn from the tank, the heater will operate periodically just to maintain the water temperature. This is known as "standby loss" - and this can account for up to 20 percent of a home's annual water heating costs!

Depending on the size and type of the hot water tank you're using now, installing an on-demand tankless heater could save you anywhere from 6% to 70% on your annual water heating bill - and that's not including the fact that an on-demand heater consumes no electricity!

More Durable, Less Maintenance Required

Since tankless heaters are smaller and do not actually hold any water (the water it heats is used right away as it passes through the system), their life span is twice that of a conventional water tank - up to 20 years with normal maintenance!

If properly maintained, an on-demand water heater will keep its efficiency throughout the entire lifetime of the unit. In comparison, storage tank water heaters decrease in efficiency due to the gradual build-up of minerals inside the tank, and are at risk of developing corrosive leaks and causing expensive water damage in your home.

Reclaim Your Floor Space

We all know that traditional water tanks are big, bulky, and take up valuable (and usable) floor space in your home. If you replace that tank with a slim and compact tankless heater, you can create enough space to install a new closet in your home.

In addition, the compact size of a tankless heater provides greater flexibility in the placement of a traditional tank, as the units are usually hung on the wall. The only requirement is that the heater must be installed at least 3 ft. away from a door, window, or vent.

Other Points to Consider When Installing a Tankless Water Heater

The volume of hot water that an on-demand heater can deliver is directly correlated to the amount of its gas input. Therefore, if there are several appliances already running on natural gas, the pipe may have to be increased in size to allow more gas into your home. This could affect the cost and set up time of your new tankless water heater.

Finally, you should keep in mind that a tankless water heating system will cost more to install than a traditional hot water tank - initially. However, the significant energy savings, fewer repair calls, and the ultimate convenience of having unlimited hot water at your fingertips more than makes up for this cost over the long run.
