Backyard Makeovers on a Budget

(NC)-If you’ll be enjoying a ‘staycation’ this summer, why not transform your backyard into a four-star resort with these fast, inexpensive and easy-to-do projects to create your own outdoor retreat.

Patio Panache

Whether your patio set is plastic or metal, there are easy ways to give your furniture a facelift and make it look brand new. Follow these simple steps:

Remove any old or loose paint and lightly sand metal tables and chairs. Then wash your furniture and let it dry. Select a spray paint formulated to cover the surface in your desired finish. Paints come in a rainbow of colours and designer finishes. For example, Rust-Oleum multi-coloured textured spray mimics the pebble-look of high-end patio furniture. Or, if your set is plastic, make it fantastic with a dose of vibrant colour using Universal spray in sunset orange. For a great finish, hold the can 8 to 12 inches away from the surface, spray in a back and forth sweeping motion. Multiple light coats give the best result.

Concrete Idea

Take your dull-looking patio, stairs or walkways and give them a weekend makeover with a splash of colour or texture. Simply spray on Concrete Stain. It’s the saviour for outdoor stone or concrete, comes in a variety of colours and can be custom-tinted. Get creative and blend two colours to create your own distinctive design.

Rock On

If you like the look and feel of pebbles under your feet, think about applying a decorative Stoneffects finish. Available in a roll-on application, simply paint it on with a roller – there is no priming required. You can also create patterns in the stone by using painter’s tape before you apply the coating or select a specialty roller to create a unique finish.

Turn Up the Heat

Before you get ready to enjoy burgers and a cold drink, there is one last backyard essential which may need a little t-l-c. If your barbeque has rust spots or chipped paint refinish it using a high heat spray paint in basic black or try stylish new colours like copper or brown.
