Window condensation

QUESTION: How do I get rid of condensation between the two panes of glass in my window? The window faces east, it is a slider opening, it is also near the ground floor laundry. Is this a project for a competent handyman or best left to a pro with special tools and equipment?

-- George Willey from Beamsville, ON

ANSWER:

When condensation appears between the two panes of glass it is a result of a seal failure. A seal failure is when the seal between the two panes of glass is broken. When this happens moist air from the home gets trapped inside the sealed glass unit and condensates when there is a fluctuation in the air temperature. To correct the problem you would need to replace the glass unit only which, for the most part, does not require special tools and can be done by most competent handymen.
