Gorgeous and Green
Improving both the function and aesthetics, as well as approaching the project with a mindfulness to reduce as much impact on the environment as possible, were the goals of the client and their designers, BiglarKinyan Design
The designers utilized products and suppliers committed to bettering the environment. As much as possible, materials were preserved for use in the new design. For example, the existing hardwood floors were salvaged by patching any holes and damaged areas in the floor with a matching species and then refinishing the whole floor for a perfect match.
Old cabinets were removed and donated to Habitat for Humanity, meanwhile, the new contemporary maple cabinets supplied by BiglarKinyan Design were created to be totally modular. As standard modules, it would be easy to reconfigure them to fit another space. If the owners' lifestyle changes, it would be easy to remove a module and replace it with something more relevant. Alternatively, if they choose to renovate their home again, these cabinets can easily be dismantled and donated.
As well, the colours and materials were chosen by BKDP to have a timeless look and quality (rather than being too trendy) in order to increase the potential life cycle of the design. If the owners’ lifestyle changes, it would be easy to remove a module and replace it with something more relevant. Alternatively, if they choose to renovate their home again, these cabinets can easily be dismantled and donated.
