There is ongoing debate as to whether or not CFLs (compact flourescent) are indeed superior to the incandescent lights many have been using over the years. While CFLs generally provide the same amount of light as incandescents, they have a longer life span and use less power. Case in point: incandescent bulbs usually burn for 750 to 1,000 hours versus 6,000 to 15,000 hours for CFLs.
