The objective of the work to the exterior of this home was to give it a much-needed rejuvenation and increase the use and privacy of the outdoor spaces. The interior, is relatively small at 1200 square feet which posed some challenges. The homeowners had no desire to increase the floor space, but wanted to create the “feel” of a much larger environment. One of the criteria of this renovation was to use as much natural or reclaimed material as possible, and still be cost effective.
Recreating a cross between Japanese and West Coast, features such as natural cedar siding, dark trim colour, larger windows, double French doors opening onto a large ground level deck and a large, fenced in Japanese garden completed the desired look. This seamless combination of designs ensures that the outdoor garden, its surroundings, and the house become one.
