The objective of the work on the exterior of this home was to give it a much-needed rejuvenation and increase the use and privacy of the outdoor spaces. The interior is relatively small at 1200 square feet, posing some challenges. The homeowners had no desire to increase the amount of floor space, but wanted to create the “feel” of a much larger environment. One of the criteria of this renovation was to use as much natural or reclaimed material as possible, and still be cost effective.

We created a cross between Japanese and West Coast style using features such as natural cedar siding, dark trim colour, larger windows, double French doors opening onto a large ground level deck and a large, fenced-in Japanese garden. This seamless combination of design styles ensured that the outdoor garden, its surroundings, and the house become one.

Curbside Before

The front of the home is modern and very functional, and is easily upkept. Brilliant large windows allow the home to retain the “feel” of a large space, so pertinent in the design, but privacy is maintained with the fences and landscaping.
