Kitchen and Living Room Makeover

The owners not surprisingly wanted to update their old kitchen as well as create more usable space. Refined oak hardwood flooring was installed in both rooms and refinished in other areas (including the upstairs). New plumbing allowed for adding a dishwasher and venting and installing a new exhaust system brings added comfort. New cabinetry and drawers are complemented by a pretty glass mosaic tile back splash, which is reflected in the new fireplace face. Natural and enhanced lighting enhances the atmosphere via many windows — pot lights and chic pendant lights add a dash of style. Fresh paint in neutral tones truly update the space.

The new look is modern, bright, and there’s plenty of storage and shelving.

Wood Ceilings
Okay, so I'm moving into a fabulous new house in the hills that might as well be a cabin. Wood exterior, wood floors, and wood beam exposed ceilings. Which is all great, but would be better the place weren't nestled in the shadows of trees--meaning very little light comes in. The wood ceilings only enhance the cave-like atmosphere. I was ready to paint them white until my landlord refused to allow it. The walls are already white (which I find boring). What can I do to lighten up the ceiling and the space without doing any major renter-forbidden projects? Read the answer »
