New Condo, New Building Materials

My new condo has concrete ceilings and floors, the walls are drywall over metal studs. How do I mount draperies (rods,or tracks) to my windows? The condo windows span 10 feet each and there are windows in the living room, dining room and each of 2 bedrooms. I have a small impact driver but what do I use to hold the mounting hardware in concrete or metal studs? I also want to mount a dining room light fixture a few feet from the existing ceiling junction box. Any hints? Read our expert's answer »

Remodelling the Kitchen

I am looking for some advice for remodelling my kitchen. My walls are chocolate brown, I have cherry hardwood flooring in the dining room and the kitchen flooring is a greyish black with brown flecks in the tile (which I love!). However, my countertops, backsplash and cupboards are hideous - my cupboards are taupe with a brown wooden lip at the bottom. I was thinking about painting the cupboard doors white and the wooden lip and the outside of the cupboard black, then painting the tile backsplash white with every third tile black. I am not sure what to do with the countertop, whether to paint it or replace it. I'm considering painting it white, but am unsure. Please advise me if this is a bad idea, or if you have any other ideas, I would love to hear them. Read our expert's answer »

Planning Furniture in New House Before a Move

I am trying to space plan my furniture for a new home we are building, and I would like to find an easy option to do so. A friend told me about a product by Canvas Corp - a Room Spacing Kit that offers furniture stickers in 1/4" scale. I have never done space planning before and I am not sure how scale works. Have you seen these kits and do you have any advice on how to work in 1/4" scale or any other options? I found the kits at Zellers. Read our expert's answer »
