Using Primer on Patches
QUESTION: Hi. I've just filled some small holes in my drywall with Polyfilla. Do I have to paint the entire wall with primer, or just over the patched areas?
-- Desiree from Fort Saskatchewan, AB
ANSWER:
Usually it is just the patched areas that require primer. The primer’s role is to seal the area and ensure that the patch will hopefully look like the rest of the wall once it is painted. Skipping the primer often gives the patched area a different texture, which can make it more noticeable. Depending on the color and age of the paint, however, sometimes the only way to get a patch to disappear is to paint the wall in its entirety.
