Vanity Light Fixtures

QUESTION: Should the finish on my vanity light fixture (i.e. chrome, brushed nickel, etc.) match the faucets, or the vanity hardware, or other metal in the room, such as the shower frame?

-- Linda from Marlton, NJ

ANSWER:

For a total designer look, I would highly recommend that you try to keep all the hardware and plumbing fixtures in the same metal finish. If you have no choice, you can sometimes get away with mixing chrome and brushed nickel, as long as the hardware, bathroom accessories and plumbing fixtures are not too close to one another. However, if you decide to go for an oil rubbed bronze, one of the trendiest finishes on the market right now, you will need to ensure that every item and hardware is a sure match!
